I did a post a while back on the odds of actually winning the lottery and learned:

The odds of winning the Mega Millions are 1 in 175,711,536.

According to the National Weather Service your odds of being hit by lightning in a given year are 1 in 700,000.The odds of dying from a cataclysmic storm are 1 in 59,836.

Your odds of being killed by a shark are 1 in 11.5 million.

You have a 1 in 133 chance of being murdered in your lifetime in the US.

Your chances of being injured by hail are 1 in 5,114,000.

Kind of puts it into perspective, doesn’t it?
