Money Weekly Cache 2010, July 11th Son's Birthday

July 11th, 2010 by Money Reasons Leave a reply »

Weekly Thoughts:

This week I’m just so proud of my son.  He’s getting so big so fast!  I wanted to go a little overboard with my son’s birthday, since he’ll be 10.  But we ended up not doing anything out of the ordinary.

One small thing we are doing differently is that fact that we don’t have a birthday cake this year.  Instead, my son wanted 2 peanut butter chocolate pies (his favorite dessert) and ice cream.  In the past, his grandmother has made the cakes, and they were awesome.  She made cakes such as a 3 dimensional fire truck, an ocean with a 3 dimensional octopus, clone wars Anakin, and other cool things…

Closing Thoughts:

As we grow older, birthdays pass more quickly.  While we dread our own birthdays…  It’s still brings great excitement for young kids!  So I try to make their birthdays the best that I can for my kids.  This year, while my son will still enjoy it, I feel like I dropped the ball by not planning something a bit more spectacular.  After all, he’s now double digits!!!

  1. Thanks for including my post!

My kids stopped wanting cakes long ago. My oldest likes ‘Ghosts in the Graveyard’, which is a traditional Halloween treat, and my younger 2 like banana cream pie. (Those are usually for the family parties, I can’t resist baking a cake on their actual birthday.)

I bet your son doesn’t think you dropped the ball at all. Kids don’t need big and spectacular. They just need your time, and you give him a ton of that. Big parties are usually so overwhelming anyway!

Thanks, after hearing your comments I always feel a bit more at easy! :)

It’s my wife’s idea not to have a cake this year. I think it’s silly not to have cake personally! I know so of the people don’t like pie, so what about them? Oh well, next year I’ll push it more!

    Thanks for including my post!

As a teacher, kids are always looking forward to celebrating their birthdays, whether their parents’ throw them big bashes, or not. I always try to make it a special day for them. (They get so excited over the smallest things ;) but that’s whats great about kids.)

  4. Peanut Butter Choco Pies, yum! I guess he likes Reeses peanut butter cups too then? Those were my favorites.

    Thanks for the shoutout!

I got lucky, a water fight made my son’s day! We later went out to TGIFs with some family friends, and on the car ride back, he said it was a great day!

A few adults made it more fun that it typically is. I’m glad we have such great family and friends!

He (actually all of us) likes Reeses Cups, but his favorite is reeses pieces. We overpaid for the pies, next time we’ll reduce the pie cost by half.
