Last Day of Golfing For The Year

November 6th, 2011

Usually, I’m the happy-go-lucky type around friends.  I’m usually goofing off or just being crazy, childish yes, but still fun.

That said, this past Saturday, I was sick and it was obvious.  So when my dad called up to invite me and my son to golf, at first I said sure, my son would love to go.  My son really does like to play golf and he is pretty good for being 11 years old.

After my dad came up, I felt worse, but thought I’d tag along, just to see them play and enjoy the conversation.  Of course I took my golf clubs just in case…  As you might have guessed once I go there, I had to play too (sick but so what), so off we went.  Since I was lethargic and didn’t talk or joke around too much, I was able to focus and played my best game of the year.  How’s that for a twist!

I guess sometimes when you don’t have the energy for side distractions, you can concentrate and play a better game than your would normally, even when you are sick.  Go figure.

Overall, we had a great time, making fun of the bad swings that we all made, and cheering and complimenting each other on the great shots we had too.  It’s a fun process, especially when you don’t take the game too seriously.

Now on to interesting articles I read this week:

Watson, Inc:  Young People Avoiding Investing In Record Numbers -  This is a sad trend, but with unemployment so high among recent graduates, perhaps not to incredible surprising?  Mr. Watson does an excellent job of explaining the important of investing, especially if you are young!  This is a must read article if you a young person (or really any age)!

Okay, enough reading, not to go out and enjoy when is left of the last few warm days of the season (at least in my neck of the woods)!

Hope you weekend was as rocking as mine was (minus the part about me being sick)…

This weekend, my family and I decided to take a mini-vacation at the Kalahari Resorts.

It’s touted to be the second largest water park in the world.  I’m not 100% sure of that claim, but I do know it’s a lot of fun and my kids are having a blast.

Needless to say, I’m not typing while I’m in the water area, so I need to get back to the fun!

Money Reasons Weekly Review 20111009

October 9th, 2011

Weekly Summary

I’ve been learning more about web development and coding in particular.  Reading about coding is always slow going because reading it and writing it are definitely two different things.

I was able to get some me time in this week (sort of).  I overlapped the “me” time with blogging at a local coffee house (see Blogging At The Local Arabica Coffee House).  Unlike the original experience, the words just poured from my head into the blog.  Initially it was going to be the post I’m writing now, but it got too lengthy for the intro that I planned it to be, so I have it scheduled for tomorrow.

Surprisingly, I’m starting to shift gears and get more into the technology side of blogging.  I was going to wait until next year to change my site, but I find that I’m starting to think about doing it next month instead if not sooner.  We’ll see if I can resist the temptation for the rest of this month!

On to my list of PF Blogger Articles for the Week:

Budgeting in the Fun Stuff: Balancing My Checkbook – Too Loaded to Care? – While I don’t have a booming online business, I can relate to how once you have enough money for a buffer in your checkbook, checking it isn’t as imperative as it once was.  Congratulations Crystal!

101 Centavos: A Brief Look At Debtor’s Prison – Many years back, debtor’s prison were an acceptable way of dealing with deadbeat borrowers.

20s Finances: Steve Jobs Died: What Was Important To Him – Steve Jobs’ Passing causes many of us to reflect on what is most important. Do you live to work or work to live?

Money Reasons: Why I Got An American Express Blue Cash Card – American Express Blue Cash Rewards Card is on of the best credit cards out there, and I’m now making this my primary credit card. Here is why. (this is my favorite blogger, lol)

Everyday Tips & Thoughts: Tips For Maintaining A Good Credit Score – Maintaining a good credit score is not difficult. All you have to do is follow some basic tenets of personal finance.

Growing Money Smart: What is Personal Finance? – This is my definition and description of personal finance

Financial Samurai:  Confessions Of A Protester – This actually relieves me in knowing that not everybody believes in some of the stupid causes that they protest about.  I mean, come on “A Job is a Right, Capitalism doesn’t work”?  Of course it work, that’s why we are at the top of the heap and a superpower.  Geez…  It does make me a bit disappointed that the protesters in Sam’s article don’t have better things to do with their life though…

Okay, that’s enough!  On to the rest of the post:

Money Reasons – Kids Grow Up Too Quickly

September 18th, 2011

Weekly Thoughts

Well, it’ official, my son is now taller than my wife.  As they were standing next to each other, I noticed that he looked an inch or so taller than my wife.  She wasn’t standing straight up, but once they both did, he still had her by a hair.

Yep, my son is becoming quite a young man!  It seems like he’s getting bigger and stronger by the week anymore.  I’ve come to realize that his weaknesses are really just my weaknesses that he has picked up on.  Now I’m working to change my behavior.  This is no easy task!  So far this year, he has straight As like he did last year.  So what little weaknesses he does have they are minor.

My daughter, while still shorter than my wife by a large margin is getting bigger too, and more beautiful and intelligent every day.  I never known anybody quite like her!  Ever since she was about 1 or 2, you could look in her eyes and see that she’s something special.  At 2 or 3, she seemed unreal to me, to perfect, she has such a presence!  People gravitate to her.

The point of the observations of my kids is that they are growing up quickly, too quickly in fact!  I wanted to do so much with them both, but they are growing up right before my eyes.  Kind of like a weed that grows an inch or so every day.  I really need to spend more time with them before they are out on their own!  Life moves fast when you have kids…

Now for some weekly articles from other pf bloggers:

Carnivals:

Yakezie Carnival : Capitol Building edition

Conclusion:

My son had an awesome soccer game, he was everywhere the ball was, it was amazing, perhaps the best game that I’ve ever seen him play!  I need to start to bring my camcorder to capture these moments!  Same applies with my daughter’s games too, she’s even playing up a level!

Hope everybody had a great weekend!

Sunday Cache and Fall is in the Air

September 11th, 2011

Weekly Thoughts:

Yes, Fall is definitely in the air, the mornings are darker and the days are getting cooler.  While some may get sad, I love fall.  The crispness in the air, the spookiness of the nights, the crinkling of the dried out leaves falling from the trees, and of course the beauty of the colors in a forest.  It’s kind of like each tree is a fireworks display of awesome colors!

While not all understand how incredible Fall is in the area, those of us that do get it, love it.

It’s a busy weekend so I’ll keep this article short, but here are some other articles to check out this past week by some incredible PF Bloggers:

Carnivals I was in (just one this week)

Weekly Conclusion:

With Fall in the air, it’s an exciting time for my family!  Life is good, don’t dwell on the negatives, because everything changes eventually, just like with the seasons!  So now that something new is in the air, I feel energized and excited to check out all the great new pf bloggers that I’ve noticed lately!  You’ll see more of them in future weekly review posts!
