MR Cache – A Bad Parenting Week

September 4th, 2011

Weekly Thoughts

When my son was born, he looked a lot like me.  Over the years, I’ve learned a lot about my weaknesses through identifying his weaknesses and realizing that I have many of the same ones.  Obviously, since I put my kids first I try to correct his issues by helping him realize what they are and try to conquer them together.

So far my success rate has been near zero.  Oh, he’ll change for a month, but then reverts back to the same old mistakes.  Perhaps I’m expecting too much from an eleven year old, after all his teachers and other adults really seem to like him.  When he was in the fifth grade, the principal of the school actually sought us out at a school function and shook my hand telling me what a great kid we have.  That was an odd moment for me!  I couldn’t even tell you if my fifth grade principal when I was in school was a male or female (most likely a male though).  I obviously didn’t know my principal’s name…  But it’s different with my kids, a big part of where we decided to live was based on the school system’s quality, so things are a bit different for my kids growing up.

Back to my problems with my son:

I’ll identify his weaknesses and try to help him overcome them with ideas, but he just get mad, sassy, or gives up angrily.

I know that the shows he watches always has the dad and mom identified as idiots.  Since kids really don’t know any better, I would guess that he has watched enough shows (over and over and over again), that portray parents as a source that aren’t reliable or trustworthy source (thanks TV writer folks).

My problem:

My problem is I’m not a patience man, and I’m getting tired of this repeating performance.  I’m about ready to give up on trying to help him improve and just let him be what he is, problems and all.  My initial thought was I’d give him a leg up on things by helping him conquer the issues I know of and have conquered, but since he doesn’t respect me, I guess he will have to figure it out years later.  What a time waste…   Oh Well…

Now on to more positive things, my parenting rant is done:

Weekly reads from other bloggers:

Conclusion, back to my parenting rant!

I love my son, but now I’m kind of worried about when he hits his teenage years.  I envisioned my son and I having a great relationship and playing golf together, but now I’m not so sure.  Perhaps he is taking my help as criticism, and instead of helping him, he is just getting angry at me.  As a dad I feel it’s my duty to help him improve, but it’s not working out.  Time to think and come up with an alternative plan…

Either way, something need to be done because the path that we are on isn’t one that gets us to a beneficial location.

Hope you had a better week than I did!

MR Cache: Try Window Shopping Instead of Buying

August 21st, 2011

Weekly Thoughts:

Today, we went out to eat at the restaurant called Max & Ermas.  Since there was a Best Buy close by, we all went to check out the latest prices on TVs.  I was amaze to find that 46 inch HDTVs (LED and LCD at 120MHz , 1080p) were running from $499 to over $1,000.  I saw once that was running at $700 that I was really tempted to buy.

Luckily, I left my Best Buy Gift Certificates at home so I ended up just window shopping.  Normally, I don’t go to Best Buy much, but since we were in the neighborhood, we stopped to see what’s going for sale these days.  I have to admit, I was impressed with everything, especially how Apple now has a presence at the store, wise move on Best Buys part!

The stock market was been a continual rollercoaster lately.  I wonder what next week will yield (pun intended).

Today’s going to be a short post, this week and weekend has been very busy and I’m worn out…

MR Cache: On Vacation…

July 31st, 2011

Weekly Thoughts:

I’m on vacation and so far it has been great!  Both of my kids loved swimming with the dolphins and snorkeling at Discovery Cove.  Obviously, SeaWorld was a big hit with them too, especially watching the shows that included the dolphins and killer whales!

Since I’m way busier (and more tired) than I expected, instead of continuing with my thoughts, I’m just going to provide a list of other great posts from other bloggers today!

MR Cache: The Year Is Half Over and Now It’s Time To Get Up And Run!

July 24th, 2011

Weekly Thoughts:

Well, we are past the half-way mark for the year!  I’ve slowed down my accomplishments quite a bit until now.  For some reason I feel that I should really pick things up and start to sprint for the rest of the year.  I’m not sure if it’s the motivational article called “How to Increase Motivation and Succeed” by the Financial Samurai or because I know that I have slowed down and it’s now time to do a full out sprint to the end of the year.

It could be the iPod touch that my son got for his birthday made me realize that the technology world has moved on past the old palm pilots of the past and now is very exciting and friendly!  I have to admit, I really want an iPod touch or Android equivalent!  Since the iPod touch sync up with various email programs, just having it hook to my google calendar would be awesome!

These past few days, I’ve really enjoyed my deck!  I’ve been sitting out under the umbrella in a chair reading Money Magazine and Technical books.  It’s so hot that it feels like I’m on vacation, and that’s wonderful!  Perhaps I could do both, speed up with my work and still enjoy the outdoors at the same time.

Time to work on the looks of this blog, so here are some blogger articles to read…

Weekly Conclusion

Next week I will be on vacation!  I’m going to try and blog while I’m on vacation, but it might be difficult.  After a cool winter and a wet spring, Summer is just right, albeit a bit hot.  I’m playing around with the idea of starting more online sites, so now it’s time to do some thinking!

Time to get our second wind and starting running like an antelope!

Have a great weekend!

MR Cache: Looking Better While Losing Weight

July 3rd, 2011

Weekly Thoughts:

On the frugal weight loss diet that I’ve started, I’m down 18 pounds in a bit over 3 weeks.  Now, you’d think I’d be happy with my weight loss, but surprisingly I’m not.

Why? Because while even weight loss in itself is a great and beneficial thing, my body and shape still just looks like a slightly smaller version of what it was previously.  I’m still out of shape, but a lighter version of being out of shape.

The next phase of my frugal weight loss plan is the introduction of exercise.  Almost any type of exercise will make a difference.

You might be wondering why I didn’t start out with exercise at the beginning…  Well, I wanted to shave off a few pounds with the diet first before leaping into an exercise problem.  Now with those pounds off (and the fact that it’s summer), it’s time to get more active!

When I say more active, I mean even more than just exercise!  Use a push mower to mow the lawn, take the dog for a walk, clean the house, paint the house, do landscaping, go for a walk in the park, go swimming and of course go for a bike ride with the kids.

Weekly Conclusion

This was a great week for me (on Wednesday, I got a new high visitor count at 1,705 this is now my new record high), ideas came easily and it was a lot of fun writing them.  I wonder if it’s because I”m losing weight and feeling healthier?  Hmmm…

Folks in the United States, have a great 4th of July!
