A Look At Our Lady Peace

Some music is an acquired taste, and I believe that such is the case with “Our Lady Peace”!  I think that the group is awesome. I thought they were destined for bigger things ten years ago, but they only grew to an adequate size.

My wife use to think that the lead singer kind of looked a little like Tom Cruise. I’m not sure if that affect their popularity or not. Afterall, the grunge looks and the way Tom Cruise looks doesn’t really mix all that well.

“Our Lady Grace” is a Canadian band (I didn’t know this until today).

The following 5 videos are some of my favorite of Our Lady Grace.

I just thought I’d give a taste of what I listened to growing up, and the fact that I went to a small get together with some friends that had me up too late to write something financially related material, especially after a few glasses of wine…

Renaming This Blog To Money Reasons For PaintBall!

After a lot of soul searching, I decided to change this blog from one about money, to a blog about paintball and it’s benefits.

So to start, I’m going to change the name from “Money Reasons” to “Money Reasons for Paintball Fun“!

Although I’m not going to start my new articles until tomorrow, I’m excited about the change so let me highlight some of the expected changes here at this blog.

  1. No more plain vanilla look!  We are going to go with a sidebar, content, sidebar format (versus the content, sidebar, sidebar format).  In both left and right sidebar, we plan on having animated gifs that will look like a firework explosion, except that it will be a paintballs exploding!  If they ware sequenced right, it should almost have a strobe light effect!  How awesome is that!!!
  2. We’re going to replace our current header jpg with another animated gif of someone getting shot multiples times in a fun session of paintball.  And then having them take off their helmet laughing…  It will look very cool!
  3. As for content, I plan on bringing you the best deal on paintball and paintgun supplies!
  4. I’ll discuss advance usage for  paintball activities, like the new paintball fertilization service and a review of companies that use this process to fertilize your lawn.  The brilliant new style of painting houses (both inside and out) using the now famous paintball techniques (not to mentions the car painting craze that is just now starting to catch on).
  5. The obvious exercise benefits for playing paintball.
  6. And finally the money management for participating in paintball activities.  In this fun category, each member tries to calculate how much money was spent in used paintballs versus dud paintballs.  You know, the typical routine…

I hope you’re as excited as I am about me new redirection!  If you know some paintball companies looking for free advertising, for the first 4 months starting April 1st (today), I’ll display their ads for FREE!

THANKS AND LET’S PLAY!!!

What You Remember Might Not Be The Original

Back in the year 2009, my kids first viewing of “The Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens was “Mickey’s Christmas Carol” by Disney.

At the time, I knew that having the their first exposure to such a classic novel was wrong somehow, even though it seemed innocent enough.  Most of the older neighborhood kids  had seen the movie, so I followed the tend and let my kids watch the kidified (yeah, I made that word up) version of the classic by Mr. Dickens.  But still what was lost in the translation of the classic still bothers me a little today.  Oh not in a big way, but I know it has tainted the original message, feeling and meaning forever for my kids.  Whenever the see a version of this classic, they will first think of Mickey Mouse.

When I was a very small child, my parents use to play the song “Scarborough Fair” by Simeon and Garfunkel.  I was amazed by the song and I thought the two singers were geniuses.   I couldn’t totally understand the words, but I knew the lyrics were a bit magical to me, and I was in awe of them.  I often wondered how these two individuals came up with such striking lyrics!  I really thought they were something special…  But, in this case I was wrong!

You see the lyrics to “Scarborough Fair” and the basic melody has existed a bit before Simon and Garfunkel sung the classic song.  In fact, it’s from Medieval times and had various versions of the ballad!

While there is a great chance that I would have never heard the song if it wasn’t sung by Simeon and Garfunkel, I think it’s a bit deceiving letting people believe that they created the ballad.  Perhaps they did mention it on the album, and my parents knew and just never told me…  But I bet a lot of you didn’t realize this little fact either.

It is a great song, but it wasn’t the original…

I wonder how many more things in life are like this great little song?  Remakes of some other great piece of work by others in time?  I know the original writers of this song is uncredited and unknown.

This is a simple example, but I wonder how often we miss hearing the original version of such works in its original context?

Great Time At the School Christmas Concert

My son is a 5th grader this year, and all the 5th graders have the option of being in either the band or choir.  Well, my son chose the band and selected to play the trombone as his instrument.

I’ve heard my son practice, and although he has definitely improved, I didn’t expect much from the concert!  Boy was I wrong!  Yeah, there were a few off sounds from the group occasionally, but overall it was great.

This may be one of the first concerts where I actually enjoyed it thoroughly!  And unlike past times, I actually enjoyed all of the kids in the group, not just mine!?!  I actually looked at both of the music teachers (a man and woman), and admired their work!

I can honestly say that I was saddened by the fact that the concert ended!  Of all my expectations, this was quite the surprise!

At first, I though that I was just being a proud dad, and listening with dad ears.  But we got my wife’s parent to come to the event too.  And both of them said it was a great concert too, especially considering how new the kids were to playing the instruments!

Unlike the grade school talent show, this event was only open to parents and family members.  The building was packed, and the show was awesome!  My one regret was that I had to leave instead of hearing the 5th grade choir sing too.  I really wonder if there were as good as the band, I have a feeling that they most likely were!

Have you ever been surprised by a free event that just blown you away?
