Mistakes Made When You Are Tired!

Today, I’m shot!  I’ve been too busy and I’ve been staying up too late at night working on side projects.

Well, I cost someone an hour of their life today!  Here is my story!

Our family drove down to our friend’s house to celebrate their two-year old’s birthday party.  It’s like a two-hour drive down and was already tired so it pushed me into zombie mode tired.  So while I was tired to start, I was barely awake when I got down there.

Zombie Tired

Okay, now that I made an adequate excuse (lol), here is what I did…  while down there I decided to take my keys and put it in my coat.  The coats were in a closet and practically all the coats were a color black .  Well, I just reached in and thought I was putting my keys in my coat, but unfortunately it was one of my friend’s coats and they left with my keys in their coat.  Luckily, they realized my mistake and called telling their discovery and volunteered to drive it back to the house.  To make matters worse, once I was outside when they dropped the keys off at the house, so I even missed profusely apologizing to them.  I’m the type of guy that will remember next birthday though, so I’ll do something nice for them next time I see them.

I’m so zombie tired today, that I’m going to recommend reading the following articles by other bloggers:

Hopefully, I’ll be less of a zombie tomorrow.

  1. Doh. You’re right though, it IS easy to make mistakes when you’re tired. (Or distracted.)

I’ll tell you a related story about lost keys. My husband & I went downtown to get a hamburger, and stood at the counter to order. He set his keys down on the counter to pick up our food or something, and when he went to pick them up again they were gone. So we searched everywhere, thinking that he must have stuck them somewhere instead of laying them down. We couldn’t find them.

We even searched the entire street from where we parked to the door, and nada. We asked if anyone had turned them in, etc.

The bad part was, I didn’t have my keys either. They were locked in the house, along with my ID.

We finally decided his keys must have gotten locked in the car, so we called roadside assistance and they broke into his car. No keys.

So I had to take the bus home and call a locksmith. He didn’t really want to break into our house without knowing that I lived there, but agreed to if I would show him my ID immediately afterward, because I had my (at the time) young son with me and I guess I didn’t look like a burglar.

Like 2 hours and I don’t remember how much money later, I was back at the restaurant and unlocking my husband’s car so he could get it home.

    Know where his keys were?

In a stranger’s pocket! This guy thought his wife had forgotten them on the counter, and so picked them up and went home. They didn’t realize until later that night that they had someone else’s keys. At least they called the hamburger place (where we’d left our number) and so we did get them back.

    • Holy moly Jackie, that sucks. I’m glad you got your keys back, but what a headache.

And MR, at least it was a friend…they love you and know you’ll be there for them someday too. 🙂

I was so tired one time (and was about 20 years old) that when my tire went flat on me, I got out of my car to kick it and yell at it and stomp around a bit…and locked myself out of the car accidentally while throwing the hissy fit. It’s absolutely hilarious to think about now but I swear I almost broke my car window from anger back then…

    • wow, what a nightmare!

My problem pales in comparison. My wife left her keys in our car, but we could have always called triple A to get her keys out.

I’m glad you got your keys back, what a nightmare of a day you had…
